Leeds United were part of an unwelcome first in the history of the Premier League this season as they were held at home by Bournemouth.
Gabriel Gudmundsson has already been part of an unwelcome 30-year Premier League first this season, when he scored an own goal in the last minute of Leeds’ defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Now, the Whites have achieved another unwanted piece of history as Daniel Farke was left to rue his side’s missed chances in the home draw against Bournemouth.
Leeds drew the game in more heartbreaking circumstances as Bournemouth cancelled out Sean Longstaff’s first goal for the club in the dying moments of the game.
Bournemouth’s goal was one of a record-breaking number scored after the 90th minute in the top flight, for the first time in Premier League history.

Leeds United were part of an unwelcome Premier League first
According to a post from OptaJoe on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), Bournemouth’s last-minute goal was one of eight goals scored after the final minute in the Premier League on Saturday, the most on a single day in the history of the competition.
The weekend started with Mathias Jensen’s 95th-minute goal in a 3-1 win against Manchester United, before Bournemouth scored late at Elland Road.
Maxim De Cuyper and Danny Welbeck both scored in stoppage time to hand Brighton a 3-1 win over Chelsea, and former Leeds loanee Eddie Nketiah helped Crystal Palace down Liverpool in the 97th minute.
Premier League Goals after the 90th Minute – Saturday 27th September
- Mathias Jensen vs Manchester United
- Eli Kroupi vs Leeds United
- Maxim De Cuyper and Danny Welbeck vs Chelsea
- Eddie Nketiah vs Liverpool
- Erling Haaland vs Burnley – 2
- Joao Palhinha vs Wolves
Leeds’ fellow newly-promoted side, Burnley, conceded two late goals from Erling Haaland before Joao Palhinha rounded off the late drama to earn Spurs a point against Wolves.
Having suffered two late disappointments already this season, Farke will be hoping that Leeds will be on the right end of a late goal before too long.

Dropped points could prove costly for Leeds
Although Leeds fans can take a lot of encouragement from the way their side has started the season, their team’s habit of dropping points late in the game is becoming concerning.
Leeds have now lost three points from winning positions after the 90th minute and could be as high as fourth in the Premier League table had those goals not gone in.
It is too early to determine whether this is simply a fluke or a sign of an underlying issue in Farke’s squad. However, Leeds could have matched Marcelo Bielsa’s total of 10 points from six games if they had held on against Bournemouth, and surpassed it by picking up a point against Fulham.
With their Premier League safety likely to be defined by fine margins, Leeds need to cut out this costly habit as soon as possible.
