A number of goalkeepers have already been linked to Leeds United this summer, with Daniel Farke and the 49ers looking to improve on Illan Meslier.
The Frenchman was replaced by Karl Darlow at Leeds United towards the end of the campaign. Now, they are eyeing a move to have a new No.1 with the Welsh international returning to a back-up role.
Players who are out of contract, or entering the final year of their deal, or who have a relegation release clause ought to be the types of players Leeds target to save money across the whole squad and not just in goal.
One of those includes Aaron Ramsdale, who has a clause Leeds can activate following Southampton’s relegation, and the England international could cost Leeds around £20 million.

Leeds fans are desperate for the club to avoid signing Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton
Ramsdale has been linked with a Leeds move for some time now, although the Southampton goalkeeper is also thought to be interesting Man United this summer as they rebuild their goalkeeping department.
In recent days, Leeds have been linked with Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone as alternatives to Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher. The latter appears to be the player that fans are most keen on, and the former is not someone they are wanting whatsoever.
Another said: “Kelleher would be my first pick, followed by Johnstone who is solid. Don’t want Ramsdale anywhere near us, far too many relegations on his CV is a telling sign.”
Some put it simply, stating: “Ramsdale would be an awful signing, has to be Kelleher.”
Two further responses summarised the above: “Please not Ramsdale” and “I don’t rate ramsdale I think he’s overhyped all because he was at arsenal.”
Aaron Ramsdale admits to lacking concentration, Leeds fans will be concerned
As a five-cap international, Ramsdale wishes to remain in English football. However, Leeds arguably need a more consistent and reliable player there. Not only that, but Ramsdale has even admitted to struggling with concentration before.
“If you ask me to focus on a game of football for 90 minutes? I’m finished. I can’t do it,” he told Ian Wright and UK rapper Bugzy Malone on Behind The Game back in 2023.
“So that’s why I get involved with the fans and I sing along with the songs. Someone’s giving me abuse, I’ll turn around and give them a bit back.
“I have had my two-three minutes of sort of madness in my head — straight back to the football. I’ve got 10/15 minutes of pure concentration again. Next thing you know, half-time is around.”
Ramsdale has four relegations from the Premier League on his CV already and the above indicates how unreliable he can be in spells, even if he has patches of excellent concentration and form.
