Promotion to the Premier League looked nailed-on for Leeds United a month ago and now, that hangs in the balance after just won in five – even if Daniel Farke remains utterly confident.

The German manager was bullish in his post-match press conference on Saturday evening following the draw with Swansea City. Farke said he is “100%” sure Leeds will be in the Premier League next season.

But Leeds fans are not as confident with The Whites now second and level on points with third-placed Burnley. It has led to Jeff Stelling discusses Leeds’ woeful record in the play-offs throughout history.

The bookies still think Leeds are favourites, largely due to a more-favourable run-in and the fact that Sheffield United and Burnley play each other in the third-last round of Championship fixtures in April.

Leeds will activate relegation release clause in England star’s deal

Promotion remains a real possibility and if things remain the same, Leeds will be automatically promoted. It is not all doom and gloom – and if Leeds do go up, TeamTalk say Leeds will activate a particular clause.

Leeds are interested in Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale, and now TT say Leeds are planning to activate the relegation release clause in the £92k-a-week star’s contract with Southampton pretty much relegated.

Leeds are not alone in pursuit of the former Arsenal goalkeeper who was called-up by Thomas Tuchel this month. Newcastle are also interested in signing Ramsdale, as are his former side Bournemouth.

Why Leeds have the best chance of signing Aaron Ramsdale

Leeds will obviously need promotion to be able to lure Ramsdale to Elland Road. Newcastle are also keen as they look to bring in competition for Nick Pope, but their no.1 target is Burnley’s James Trafford.

They will go after Trafford with Ramsdale’s request being that he is first choice for a Premier League club. If Leeds are promoted, that is the case. At Newcastle, not so obvious given Pope remains with The Toon.

Bournemouth are also interested but only as a back-up if they are unable to strike a permanent deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. The Spaniard is happy at Bournemouth and a deal is likely to be done.

So, Leeds have the best chance of landing Ramsdale given of the three clubs interested, Ramsdale is first choice for The Whites and will start. But it all hinges on whether Farke can make good on his comments.
