Jeff Stelling makes Championship play-off claim about Leeds United after failure to beat Swansea

Just a month ago, Leeds United were five clear of Sheffield United at the top of the Championship table but the promotion run-in is never a foregone conclusion and Leeds are now second.

Over the course of the last five games, Sheffield United and Burnley have clocked up 13 points from five games while Leeds have only managed a measly six. One win in five, drawing three, losing at Portsmouth.

Leeds fans are growing increasingly concerned that The Whites are slipping at the crucial moment, just like last season. Mike Grella shared how Leeds fans are their own worst enemy, given the expectation.

Sheffield United are now two points clear of Leeds with seven games left, while Burnley’s incredible unbeaten run in the Championship sees them level with Leeds on 81 points – last losing on November 3.

Jeff Stelling makes worrying play-off claim about Leeds United

The pressure is on Leeds and while the Championship title remains very much in Daniel Farke’s grasp, the clutches of the play-offs are wide open and poised. Next up for Leeds is a tricky away clash at Luton.

Leeds have never won promotion from the play-offs and speaking on TalkSPORT on Monday morning (31/03, 8.20AM), Stelling said it is “very tense” at Leeds while reminding all about their play-off record.

“Very tense indeed, they’ve been there before – their play-off record is, well they’ve never been promoted by the play-offs. It’s very tense,” Stelling said, after being surprised Leeds remain favourites for the title.

Leeds United’s history in the play-offs is absolutely woeful

Farke and his Leeds players will not be thinking about finishing in the play-offs. The aim will still be to first in the race for the Championship title, but the play-offs remain a growing possibility for Leeds this term.

Leeds have been in the play-offs on seven occasions, reaching the final of the play-offs on a further five occasions but failing to win any of those five. The last of course, coming against Southampton in 2024.

A win against Luton Town on Saturday will help put Leeds fans at ease ahead of a busy run of games of five games in 16 days, but it will be a tough game with Luton winning three of their last five matches.
