Leeds United fans can surely wave goodbye to one rumoured transfer after hearing about Daniel Farke’s summer plans.
Leeds United and Daniel Farke have big plans for the summer transfer window, following the club’s promotion to the Premier League after a two-year hiatus in the Championship.
The 49ers have given Leeds United a £100million transfer budget for the summer. But Farke doesn’t want to sign any old player in the summer window: he wants Premier League experience.
Recent reports have revealed how Farke wants to sign players with Premier League experience for Leeds United this summer. He’s taken notes from Leeds’ previous stint in the top flight and deemed that the club had too little top flight experience.
That could quickly pull names like James McAtee further into the crosshairs for Leeds United. But it could also push a couple of names out of sight, one being Aaron Ramsdale.

What’s the latest on Aaron Ramsdale to Leeds United?
One thing seems certain this summer, and that’s that Leeds United will sign a new goalkeeper. Illan Meslier wasn’t good enough for the Championship and so he certainly won’t be good enough for the Premier League, with reports having already surfaced that Meslier looks set to leave Leeds United this summer.
In his place, Farke could sign Ramsdale. Leeds United have been linked with Ramsdale for some time now and the five-cap former England man looks set to be on the move, with Ramsdale having a relegation release clause at Southampton who finished dead last in the top flight this season.
He’d reportedly cost the 49ers £25million, so it’d be an expensive purchase. And whilst he impressed in an otherwise woeful campaign for the Saints, Ramsdale’s record of Premier League relegation could mean he’s one who Farke passes up on.
| Stat (league) | Ramsdale in 24/25 |
| Conceded PG | 2.2 |

Aaron Ramsdale’s record of being relegated from the Premier League
Per Farke’s transfer policy this summer, he wants players with a track record of being able to keep teams in the Premier League. And Ramsdale, for all his quality with Southampton last season, just doesn’t have that track record.
He’s been relegated from the Premier League three times since 2020: with Bournemouth in 2019/20, with Sheffield United in 2020/21, and with Southampton in 2024/25.
For Farke then, signing Ramsdale would go against everything he wants this summer and so someone like Caoimhin Kelleher could be a much better fit, although the race to sign Kelleher from Liverpool is really heating up.
Brentford and Aston Villa have both joined the race in recent weeks and that could leave Leeds United in the dust.
Either way, a deal for Ramsdale all of a sudden looks like a no-go for Farke and Leeds United.
