Aaron Ramsdale is on course for relegation with Southampton this season. But Leeds United could hand him a Premier League lifeline if the Whites are promoted this season.

Leeds United are being linked with more and more names ahead of the summer transfer window, with Daniel Farke’s side looking nailed on for promotion after their 3-1 win at Sheffield United last time out.

And several goalkeepers are being mentioned alongside summer moves to Elland Road. Caoimhin Kelleher is one, and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale another.

It’s understood that Leeds United are interested in Ramsdale. But Leeds United fans aren’t convinced about a possible deal for the former Arsenal and England man.

Leeds United fans in agreement about Aaron Ramsdale

Posting on X, plenty of Leeds fans were underwhelmed by the possibility of signing Ramsdale in the summer, with many mentioning the fact that he’s on course for a career third relegation from the Premier League.

“No thanks” posted one Leeds fan in reply to the Ramsdale links. Meanwhile, another described him as an “Illan Meslier 2.0” adding that “there’s probably better and more reasonably priced options around Europe”.

Another Leeds fan posted: “Clearly not good enough for the very top at Arsenal and has been relegated how many times, hasn’t looked particularly impressive in this awful Southampton defence either.”

A similar comment read: “Would genuinely be worse than Meslier. Shocking goalkeeper.”

Meanwhile, this Whites fan added: “Seen him a few times this season, and he doesn’t look anywhere near as good as he did a few years ago.”

It’s fair to say that Meslier has struggled somewhat this season, with induvial errors leading to far too many goals.

And speaking to Leeds United News recently, transfer expert Graeme Bailey suggested that Meslier might look to move on from Leeds in the summer.

He said: “I’m getting the sense that Meslier might very well move back to France or move elsewhere. It might suit all parties.”

It certainly could be best for all involved. Leeds can’t afford goalkeeper mistakes should they be playing in the Premier League, as they’ll be right up against it in the top flight.

But many fans feel like Ramsdale isn’t the answer. There’s still time and plenty of goalkeepers impressing in Europe, and who Leeds might end up signing could prove very exciting.
