49ers and Leeds United now at risk of losing out on millions on Crysencio Summerville after development

Leeds United have returned to the Premier League after a two-year hiatus in the Championship, with the signings already rolling in at Elland Road.

Leeds United have taken their summer signings tally up to seven with the recent signing of Lucas Perri from Lyon. He adds definite quality to the team and will undoubtedly walk into the XI, replacing Illan Meslier, who finally looks set to leave Elland Road after a rather disastrous 2024/25 season in the Championship.

Daniel Farke is clearly improving the side from the last time they were in the Premier League, and in fact from the last time Leeds played in the top flight, the team still have a few of the same players; the likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Brenden Aaronson, and Pascal Struijk, and others, whilst there have been several who have moved on, some to bigger and better, or so it seemed at the time.

Last summer, Crysencio Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds. The Hammers paid a reported £25million fee for Summerville, which was an initial payment, but now it looks like the Dutchman could be on his way out of East London.

Euro giants could offer Crysencio Summerville a way out of West Ham

Summerville was the Championship Player of the Season in 2023/24. He scored 20 times and assisted nine more, playing a key role in the Leeds side that reached the Championship play-off final, albeit losing to Southampton at Wembley.

He was a big signing for West Ham, and at an initial £25million, he seemed like a bargain too. But in 19 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, Summerville scored just once, assisting once more, and now he could be handed a lifeline by Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.

Multiple reports coming out of Turkey have confirmed that Fenerbahce have an interest in signing the Dutchman this summer. Whether that be on loan or permanently remains to be seen: Hurriyet seem to suggest a loan move is more likely, and that an offer is expected to arrive in the coming days.

Leeds United could face £9m void if Crysencio Summerville leaves West Ham

It’s been reported that Leeds could be owed £9million in add-ons from the Summerville deal if two criteria are met: £4million if Summerville earns a cap for the Dutch national side, and a further £5million in performance-related add-ons.

But should the 23-year-old leave West Ham this summer, and on a permanent deal too, it surely sees those £9million worth of add-ons expire, which would come as a huge blow for the 49ers and Farke.

Every little helps in the transfer market. Leeds have already spent well this summer, steadily chipping away at their reported £150million transfer budget, and so an extra £9million would go a long way, potentially even paying for a new player altogether.

Expect Leeds to take a keen interest in whether or not Summerville leaves West Ham this summer.
