Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville have both left Leeds United as the club’s two biggest sales of seven this summer, and Daniel Farke has commented on their departures.
The 49ers have been forced into selling a couple of big names, and orchestrating a bit of a car-boot sale. Failure to get promoted last term combined with big money spent in the past has forced The 49ers’ hand.
Summerville is the most-recent to go, joining West Ham on a five-year deal for an initial £25m. Gray has gone to Tottenham for £40m while Glen Kamara, Diego Llorente, Marc Roca and Charlie Cresswell leave.
It has seen Leeds rake in around £80m this summer, while only spending about £15m on deals for Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle and Alex Cairns. Joe Rothwell has joined Leeds only on loan from AFC Bournemouth.

Daniel Farke on Leeds selling both Summerville and Gray
With Leeds failing to gain promotion after the defeat to Southampton at Wembley, it instantly meant plenty of players could be leaving. There are still four players that could end up leaving Elland Road.
Leeds might have expected others to go by this point, with plenty of interest in Georginio Rutter, Willy Gnonto and Illan Meslier. Farke says Summerville and Gray outgrew Leeds, as per the club’s YouTube.
“Of course I would have liked to have been promoted and keep these types of players and improve the squad. But the reality is, sometimes you have to accept the player develops quicker than the club.
“That is tough to take but is the reality. Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville after such a season, they should play in the Premier League. We created value with their sales, we must spend it with sustainability.”

Gray and Summerville have joined perfect clubs to go and shine
Gray needed a team with massive faith in youth and plenty of games to play in. Tottenham have a boss in Ange Postecoglou that will give him the game time and the space to adapt to the top tier, and impress.
Europa League football will allow Spurs to use Gray from the start regularly and that makes a move to North London the perfect move for the Thorp Arch product. For Summerville, he needed a big club.
The winger is a big personality and loves the spotlight, and at a big side like West Ham he has the stage to shine. It might take him a few weeks to break in, but he has picked well in his next club after Leeds.
