Leeds United player Isaac Schmidt looks set for a shock exit this summer with a loan move to Werder Bremen being reported.
Leeds United signed Isaac Schmidt in a £2.5million deal from St Gallen last summer. But the Swiss right-back, 25, would not enjoy a promising debut season in England, playing just 12 times in the Championship whilst failing to start a single game.
Leeds United fans had a lot to say about Schmidt last season. Many wanted to see him given a proper run out in the team until Junior Firpo made the left-back spot his own in the second half of the season.
Now with Gabriel Gudmundsson arriving at Elland Road, Schmidt has fallen even further down the pecking order and reports over the weekend revealed that Schmidt has agreed a loan move to Werder Bremen.
Negotiations are ongoing and it remains unclear whether or not Bremen, who have already signed Max Wober from Leeds this summer, will have an option to buy Schmidt at the end of next season.

Leeds United transfer target Vladimir Coufal in Wolves talks
One full-back who has been on Leeds United’s radar throughout the summer is Vladimir Coufal. The 32-year-old has left West Ham as a free agent and has been linked with the likes of Leeds United, Everton and Wolves.
But journalist Alex Crook has now revealed that Wolves are showing an interest in signing Coufal this summer in what could come as a blow to Farke in the wake of news that Schmidt could leave for Werder Bremen.
Coufal is hugely experienced with 147 Premier League appearances to his name with West Ham. A right-back, he can also operate on the left, much like Schmidt, and so Leeds could easily consider making a last-minute push to sign Coufal on a free transfer, potentially on a one-year contract, should Schmidt’s exit from Elland Road pick up in the coming days.
The latest on Vladimir Coufal to Leeds United, does he want Elland Road move?
There was a time, around a month ago, when Leeds were being heavily linked with a move for Coufal. Leeds and David Moyes’ Everton were both pushing for the signing but the Czech international remains without a club.
Interestingly, earlier in the summer it was reported that Coufal would prefer a move to Everton this summer, where he would reunite with former West Ham boss Moyes. However, Everton under Angus Kinnear appear to have moved in other directions this summer, leaving Coufal without a club and potentially leaving the door open for Leeds to make a last minute move.
Leeds United fans previously said they would like Coufal to sign this summer, whereas Wolves fans and social media seem to have mixed feelings about the potential arrival. It can’t be denied that Schmidt leaving opens up a void in the full-back department, which was already lacking in numbers going into the summer, and that the experienced Coufal would be a strong signing.
Whilst Wolves have held talks, the move seems to be at a very early stage so far and so Leeds still have a definite chance in the race to sign Coufal this summer, but if Farke really wants him then he has to act quickly.
