Despite having played just seven times in the Championship for Leeds United this season, summer signing Isaac Schmidt has been a talking point throughout.
Isaac Schmidt must be wondering what he’s signed up for at Elland Road: Leeds signed Schmidt for £4.6million from St Gallen last summer but he’s yet to start a single league game.
Despite that, Leeds fans have had a lot to say about the Swiss full-back. On the whole, Leeds United fans have been impressed by Schmidt who’s impressed in his cameos, but has been completely overlooked by Daniel Farke, even at times when the likes of Sam Byram and Junior Firpo were both injured.
Now, Schmidt has spoken out on his Leeds United future, possibly casting doubt over his time at Elland Road.

Leeds United fans all say Isaac Schmidt deserves more chances
Posting on X after seeing Schmidt’s comments about his situation at the club, Leeds fans swarmed X and shared the same feeling; that the 25-year-old has been deserving of more minutes this season.
“Deserves more mins, but it’s hard for him to play over the best left-back and right-back in the league,” said one Leeds fan in reference to Jayden Bogle and Firpo. “Should have been given more chances,” added another.
Others posted comments such as “been messed around big time” and even: “Don’t think he was a Farke signing and he’s made that pretty clear. Unfortunately at the lad’s expense.”
“When he has played he has looked good,” added another Leeds supporter. One lengthier comment read: “I don’t think he has a career with us unfortunately. Good footballer but once we go up he is no use to us sadly, should have seen a lot more minutes this season though.”
Another post read: “If Farke doesn’t trust him in the Championship I fail to see how he’d trust him in the Premier League. Kid’s been treated terribly.”

What Isaac Schmidt actually said about his Leeds United future
Speaking in a recent interview, Schmidt gave an honest and quite eye-opening account of his time so far at Elland Road, insisting that the club’s hierarchy have said he’s in their long-term plans.
Schmidt said about his time at Leeds United so far: “After a year in which I barely played, I’m inevitably wondering what’s next. But I also have to consider the circumstances. The club officials have assured me that they are planning for me long-term. I just have to be patient and wait for my chance.”
Next season, with Byram and Firpo looking set to leave as free agents, Schmidt should theoretically come into the reckoning for more game time, although promotion to the Premier League would surely prompt Farke to buy more proven full-backs.
That in turn could see Schmidt in the same position all over again.
