Leeds United may well have signed seven players this summer, but outgoings also have to be a part of their transfer window.
Not only will it create more PSR headroom for Leeds United, but even loans help to lower the wage bill and make further space for incomings before the September transfer deadline.
It had been suggested that Isaac Schmidt might stay at Leeds after Premier League promotion, but he was routinely overlooked after he signed from St. Gallen in the summer of 2024.
Leeds paid an initial fee of around £2.5 million to bring in the Swiss utility man, which could rise to around £4.6 million all-in for Schmidt. However, Daniel Farke opted against playing Schmidt regularly and now he could move on.

Isaac Schmidt could head to Werder Bremen with Max Wober on loan
Schmidt hasn’t been able to put together regular minutes in his debut season. To put it into context, he played 71 minutes from 12 league games and 180 minutes from two FA Cup games.
That is fewer minutes than just nine games for St. Gallen Schmidt featured in at the start of the campaign before joining Leeds.
| Games | Starts | Minutes | Goals | Assists |
| 14 | 2 | 251 | 0 | 0 |
Schmidt has threatened to leave Leeds previously if things don’t change, with the Swiss defender undoubtedly not one of Leeds’ winners of the campaign just gone.
The 25-year-old is still waiting for his chance in a big way, which may be even harder to come by in the Premier League and after the arrival of Gabriel Gudmundsson in a role he can play in.
Farke has previously discussed Schmidt’s game time with numerous Leeds fans frustrated for Schmidt and in agreement that he should be utilised more regularly, either on the wing or in a more natural role as an attacking full-back.
Instead, it appears as though he will move on to Germany and the Bundesliga for the 2025/26 season. Sky Sports Germany’s Patrick Berger has explained the latest.
He claims that Max Wober’s new loan side Werder Bremen have reached an agreement in principle with the versatile full-back and that they are working on a loan.
Leeds and Bremen are still negotiating the details, as it is not yet clear whether the deal will include a purchase option or obligation. However, he states Farke wants to secure a replacement before giving the green light for Schmidt’s exit.
It’s not a surprise that Schmidt could leave; the shock is that it’s a loan and not a permanent. However, Leeds do not have to rush to sell Schmidt after he penned a four-year deal in the summer of 2024.
In fact, playing him regularly might even make his stock rise once again, benefitting the club more heading into next summer.

Daniel Farke explains that he values Leeds’ Isaac Schmidt
Patrick Bamford was left at home and not a part of Farke’s pre-season plans in Germany, but Schmidt was present. However, injuries have kept him out of the three friendlies Leeds have had so far.
That said, Farke has explained he values Schmidt, in spite of both Bamford and Schmidt being among the eight players that can leave Leeds permanently this summer.
Farke states that he “values his presence” in and around the Leeds squad, but the latest points towards an exit that should see Schmidt collect more game time again.
He can operate as a full-back or wing-back, but Farke usually brought Schmidt on as a winger in the Championship. Werder Bremen clearly value that versatility enough, given they finished eighth last season.
