Patrick Bamford will be busy trying to find himself a new club after Daniel Farke confirmed to media that he has informed the striker he is not a part of his Leeds United plans.
Bamford is so uninvolved that Farke has not taken him to Germany with the rest of the Leeds squad. The one-time England international was also left at home for Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United.
It is hardly a surprise, but certainly an emotional one for Leeds fans. Bamford has been a pivotal part of the modern era at Leeds, spearheading the attack throughout Marcelo Bielsa’s spell as Leeds manager.
Bamford recently said he could “hopefully” pass on his experience to the rest of the Leeds squad but it has now been made abundantly clear he has no future at Leeds. But for Isaac Schmidt, a different story.

What Daniel Farke has told Isaac Schmidt about his future
The scenario is different for Schmidt. Signed last summer, 25-year-old Schmidt really struggled for game time and Sam Byram was often picked ahead of him when Junior Firpo or Jayden Bogle were unavailable.
While he didn’t start a single Championship game, Schmidt did get more game time towards the end of the season as he began to win Farke’s trust. He also won his first Switzerland caps after a surprise call-up.
Leeds Live report that Schmidt is keen to retain his Switzerland place ahead of the World Cup and feels he needs more game time to achieve that. Farke has told Schmidt he ‘values his presence’ at Elland Road.

However, the report makes it clear that no decision has been made regarding Schmidt’s future. With Leeds signing Gabriel Gudmundsson and expected to sign a new winger, Schmidt may still seek an exit.
Despite all of that, Farke is keen to keep Schmidt. It must come as a kick in the teeth for Bamford, who actually clocked up more minutes in the Championship than Schmidt did during the 2024-25 season.
Bamford and Schmidt minutes compared in 2024-25
| Name | League Games | Games in all comps | League minutes | Minutes in all comps |
| Patrick Bamford | 17 (0 starts) | 18 (1 starts) | 235 | 325 |
| Isaac Schmidt | 12 (0 starts) | 14 (2 starts) | 71 | 251 |
Bamford is said to have taken the decision well, with Farke choosing to tell Bamford face to face rather than delegating it to Adam Underwood. But Bamford will surely feel frustrated if Schmidt remains.
What Isaac Schmidt has said about his future at Leeds United
When Schmidt signed for Leeds for £4.6m from Swiss side St. Gallen, he will have hoped for more game time and at least, to start a handful of league games. If he didn’t start last term, it’ll be tougher this term.

Speaking while on international duty this summer, Schmidt said he is open to offers with six weeks left in the window: “We’ll see. I’m open to anything. But Leeds, in the Premier League… it’s a unique experience.”
Schmidt’s comments came before Junior Firpo was confirmed as leaving, but before the club announced a new deal for Sam Byram. It will be interesting to see where Schmidt ends up before the deadline.
