Nico Elvedi is a player who Leeds United have been mentioned alongside for a while now. The Swiss international is someone known to Daniel Farke, and someone who could soon be on the move.

Ahead of a second attempt at promotion from the Championship, Daniel Farke looks as though he might call upon some familiar former faces to help get his Leeds United side over the line.

One is Emi Buendia. Leeds are increasingly linked with Buendia at Aston Villa, and a reunion with his former Norwich City boss Farke may quicky become a realistic outcome in this January window.

Elsewhere, Nico Elvedi is a target. Leeds United have been linked with Elvedi for some time now with Farke keen on a reunion with the defender whom he managed at Borussia Monchengladbach previously.

It’s previously been reported that Elvedi has an £8.2million release clause at Monchengladbach. It’s also been revealed that Leeds are causing unrest at Monchengladbach with their ongoing interest in Elvedi, which doesn’t look as though it’ll disappear anytime soon.

The latest on Nico Elvedi to Leeds United

Earlier in the month, it was revealed by Sport Bild that Borussia Monchengladbach were pretty low on cash, boasting little over £5million in spending money for this month’s transfer window. In turn, Monchengladbach were understood to be keen on offloading one of two centre-backs: Ko Itakura or Elvedi.

Now, Monchengladbach have agreed a deal to sign a new centre-back. The German outfit will sign Kevin Diks from FC Copenhagen, but not until the summer. What that means for Elvedi remains to be seen.

But Monchengladbach at least agreeing a new deal for a new centre-back certainly signals uncertainty ahead of Elvedi, who could now be poised for a summer move instead of a January one.

Either way, the door is rapidly opening for Leeds to make a move for the 28-year-old centre-back. It’s thought that Farke wants to sig Elvedi ‘now’ as the wait for Leeds United’s first January signing goes on.

Pascal Struijk injury latest at Leeds United

Farke may soon have a need to swoop for a centre-back with Pascal Struijk currently injured, and the club waiting to discover the full extent of his injury.

Speaking after the win over Sheffield Wednesday last time out, Farke said Struijk needs another scan to determine the severity of a hamstring injury.

Should he be set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines then Farke would almost definitely need another new centre-back bringing in, with Ethan Ampadu having already filled in at the back against Wednesday.

The Struijk news aligning with what’s going on at Monchengladbach could make a Leeds move for Elvedi come about very quickly.
