Leeds United look as though they could scour the European market for some new blood during the January transfer window, with a growing list of Euro stars linked with winter moves to Elland Road.

Leeds United’s January transfer plans remain somewhat unclear. It’s long been thought that the Whites will be quiet in this window, but with at least 19 players linked with Leeds United in January, and with form poor of late, several signings could be on the horizon.

Daniel Farke’s sidelined to act fast though. Those around them are making signings with Sunderland’s imminent loan signing of Enzo Le Fee at Roma giving the Whites a reminder that there’s a huge battle facing them in the second half of the season.

Defence looks like the area where Farke will bolster during the winter window. A number of defenders have been linked, with one seemingly key target being Nico Elvedi.

It’s reported that Leeds United are keen on signing Elvedi who previously played under Farke when he was manager at Elvedi’s current club Borussia Monchengladbach.

Leeds United interest in Nico Elvedi causing unrest at Borussia Monchengladbach

Reports coming out of Germany now suggest that Leeds’ interest in the 28-year-old Elvedi is causing some unrest behind the scenes at Borussia Monchengladbach. SportBILD state just so, with Monchengladbach keen to avoid losing Elvedi in January.

Monchengladbach are enjoying a strong season in the Bundesliga. Farke’s former employers currently sit in 8th place of the table and are just three points away from Frankfurt all the way up in 3rd place.

Elvedi, who is naturally a centre-back but can operate on the right side of defence, remains under contract until 2027.

How much Leeds United would have to pay for Nico Elvedi as release clause revealed

Leeds have already been told exactly how much they’d have to pay to sign Elvedi right now, with the 56-cap Swiss international having a release clause in his current contract.

It’s been revealed that Elvedi has a €10m release clause (£8.2m) at Monchengladbach, which certainly makes him an affordable signing for Leeds, but it may use up all of their January transfer kitty.

Leeds though are certainly in need of defensive reinforcements. Pascal Struijk remains a target for Tottenham and if he leaves, which seems unlikely as things stand, then Farke would be desperately light at centre-back.

Elvedi reuniting with Farke could make sense for both parties. Monchengladbach though clearly want to keep the player for the time being.
