Manager suggests he won’t ‘deny’ 28-year-old the chance to join Leeds United today

Vincent Kompany has shared an update on Connor Roberts’ reported move to Leeds United today.

Roberts is set to undergo a medical at Elland Road after a straight loan deal until the end of the season was agreed with Burnley, in what will be Leeds’ first signing of the window.

Leeds have been in the market for a new right-back ever since the departures of Djed Spence and Luke Ayling, with Roberts eventually the man they have managed to strike a deal for.

Roberts actually played over half-an-hour of Burnley’s 3-1 defeat at Manchester City last night, but he has still not started a Premier League match for the Clarets since October.

With that in mind, Burnley have been able to sanction an exit after securing a replacement of their own, with Kompany telling the Burnley Express today he did not want to stand in Roberts’ way.

Kompany shares thoughts on Roberts deal

He said: “The fact of the matter is there are some players who have not played as much. It’s important for us going into the next 16 games to have our next 16 games as the only priority.

“But I also understand of course that players will want to play. If there’s an opportunity to do that, then that’s not something we’re going to deny them.”

Kompany said something similar in his pre-match press conference ahead of Man City earlier this week, but at that point, a deal for Roberts was very much up in the air.

Roberts has already been hilariously welcomed to the club by Joe Rodon’s brother Sam, with the two players close on and off the pitch having played together for Swansea City and Wales.

He has been keen on making the move to West Yorkshire for a number of weeks now and hopefully he can be a huge asset to Leeds going forward, with more regular game time.
