Connor Roberts remains a target for Leeds United on deadline day despite the Burnley star playing for his club last night – and he showed exactly why, in a brief cameo role, why Leeds want a deal.
Roberts, 28, came off the bench on Wednesday night during a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. It was an easy win for Man City, with Julian Alvarez scoring a brace – and Rodri netting a third for the Champions.
Burnley got a late consolation but it was never a contest. Roberts entered the fray after failing to start for the Clarets again, around the hour mark. But the damage had already been done, City leading 3-0.
However, Roberts showed why Leeds want him – with the Whites said to boast a really good chance of doing a deal before the deadline for the 54-time Wales man. That, is because of the star’s versatility.
He came on at left-back, immediately showing he can operate on both sides of the defence given he is naturally a right-back. Not only that, but Roberts also moved into midfield as the game grew older.

Now, Leeds could do with cover on both sides of the defence and with Archie Gray operating as a right-back, it leaves us slightly light in midfield. Especially, with Ethan Ampadu covering in central defence.
So, having Roberts in the side gives Leeds cover on the left and right, as well as an emergency midfield option if required. His ability to play in different roles, as shown on Wednesday, is why Leeds want him.
Whether a deal can be done before the end of the window for the £2.5m defender remains to be seen. But, if a deal can be done – then it should be. He is the one player Leeds have got to sign, today.
