Man United are ‘ready’ to ruin Leeds United transfer plan right before friendly clash

Leeds United can almost get proceedings underway for the 2025/26 season as preparation for the Premier League begins.

What better game to start than a rivalry clash against Man United in Stockholm, as 50,000 people are set to watch on.

Leeds are hoping to get some early bragging rights over their bitter Manchester rivals, as it’s a chance for Daniel Farke to show off his four new signings.

Hopefully, by the time the game comes around, Sean Longstaff’s £15m move is announced, with the midfielder adding to Farke’s regime.

The 49ers are hoping to strengthen in other areas after their midfield masterplan, but it’s actually Ruben Amorim’s side who are causing a disturbance.

Ruben Amorim’s Man United ‘ready’ to ruin Leeds United’s transfer plan

With the anticipation of the friendly around the corner, fans will be travelling across Europe to see the two meet for the first time since 2023.

United prevailed against Leeds last time, as the squads from two years ago will have a stark contrast, as Farke has made a lot of changes.

One key area he will be hoping to change after six seasons is the goalkeeper position, as Illan Meslier is bound to leave Leeds.

The Leeds hierarchy find it difficult to replace Meslier due to the pressure of nailing down the keeper spot, but they can do that through Senne Lammens.

Lammens is a Leeds target after he has impressed for Royal Antwerp in Belgium.

However, Man United also want Lammens, and with Antwerp allowing Lammens to leave, it’s clear that Amorim and Farke both need a new number one, but it’s Man United making the first move.

talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has said that the Red Devils are ‘ready’ to step up their interest in Antwerp’s Lammens.

Amorim has advantage for Lammens to Leeds’ dismay

With the Whites having a rare transfer battle with their rivals, the timing of it makes the friendly, not so friendly.

With Andre Onana and Meslier being in the same bracket of backlash from their fans, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the young Belgian keeper is sought after by both clubs.

For £17m, it seems like a bargain, as statistically, Lammens is one of the best shot stoppers in Europe.

But although he ticks the box for one of Leeds’ ‘priority’ positions, Amorim might get the last laugh in this deal.

When speaking to Gazet van Antwerpen last season, the 23-year-old made a claim that gives Man United the upper hand in this deal.

“The first time I heard (about Man United interest), I thought, wow. Immediately, a world (renowned) team that follows you. That is special,” Lammens said.

“Of course, I was also spoken to about it a lot, and when I made a save in training, it was United this, United that… it’s only positive.”

The only thing that might suggest Leeds is the better option is that Lammens is guaranteed a starting spot, whereas Onana could still have a future at Old Trafford, making it difficult, but his words also don’t lie.
