After more than a week of frustration, Leeds United finally got the breakthrough they were after and agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the signing of midfielder Sean Longstaff.
Leeds have been linked with Longstaff for much of Daniel Farke’s era, with suggestions last summer that Longstaff would be targeted if they won the play-off final. Of course, those plans had to be shelved.
But a year later, interest remained and last week, David Ornstein reported Leeds had made a £12m bid for the Toon academy product. Initial reports said it had been accepted, but Newcastle rejected the offer.
It saw Leeds officials unsure if a deal would be done, though Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that a fourth bid was likely and a deal around £15m was likely. Now, that has come to fruition for Longstaff.

When Leeds will announce the signing of Sean Longstaff
Tuesday night saw Ornstein report Leeds had a £12m bid plus £3m in add-ons accepted. Personal terms have not been an issue and the long-term Leeds target is now expected to be a fifth addition.
The 27-year-old brings with him a wealth of Premier League experience, playing 171 times in England’s top tier. Crucial, given Leeds’ three options in central midfield have just 26 Premier League games in total.
Now, The Northern Echo report that Leeds and Newcastle will be able to confirm a deal for Longstaff by the weekend, as Longstaff flies to Leeds from Newcastle’s training camp in Austria to conclude a deal.

What else are Leeds expected to target after Longstaff deal?
With Leeds waving goodbye to Joe Rothwell and Josuha Guilavogui this summer, it had reduced Farke’s options in midfield from five to three. Longstaff improves that number, with Leeds keen on another.
Indeed, the Whites will still want another midfielder after Longstaff and Germany international Anton Stach is the subject of talks between Leeds and Hoffenheim. A goalkeeper will also be a Leeds priority.
Then, Leeds also require a replacement for Manor Solomon who has returned to Tottenham. A better option in the 10 role, and a starting striker are also expected between now and the start of the season.
