Leeds United are set to announce the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson from Ligue 1 side Lille in a £10m deal, but it appears The Whites are also closing in on another addition.

It is not as if The Whites had not been busy already. Already, Adam Underwood has orchestrated three signings at Leeds this summer in the form of Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw, and Jaka Bijol.

But with Junior Firpo leaving, Leeds needed to sign a left-back and they are about to do so with the addition of Sweden star Gudmundsson. It is believed he will sign a four-year deal, costing Leeds £10m.

Leeds are not done there though, this week. David Ornstein, widely renowned as the go-to man when it comes to transfers, reports on The Athletic’s website that Leeds are set to sign a Premier League player.

Leeds are finally closing in on midfield signing from Newcastle

Eddie Howe’s side seem to be the source of plenty of transfer targets for Leeds this summer. Nick Pope, Callum Wilson and even this week, £25m midfielder Joe Willock has been linked with a move to Yorkshire.

But now, Ornstein reports that long-term Leeds target Sean Longstaff has agreed personal terms over a move to Elland Road. Not only that, but Leeds have tabled a third bid for Longstaff worth £12m in total.

The uncapped Englishman signed a contract extension recently but did so for his boyhood side to receive a fee for his services. Newcastle are yet to reply to Leeds’ latest offer, but Leeds won’t go much higher.

Sean Longstaff fits Adam Underwood’s Leeds criteria

Including Gudmundsson, Leeds have signed four players who are all tall for their position and aged 26. It means Leeds are signing players who should grow and improve, signed ahead of their peak years.

Longstaff fits the bill. Yes, he is 27 but he counteracts that with 171 Premier League appearances to his name – something Bijol, Gudmundsson, Nmecha and Bornauw do not have. His contract ends in 2026.

Described as “underrated” by Sandro Tonali, Longstaff is a smart signing by Leeds and if Underwood can finally agree a fee for the midfielder, it is a signing that will be welcomed by supporters this summer.
