Leeds United could have a lot of money to spend on new players in the summer, as Daniel Farke’s side edge ever closer towards a return to the Premier League.

Two years ago, Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League. The club was on track for an immediate return but for losing the play-off final against Southampton. Fast forward to now and there seems to be nothing stopping the Whites.

In their last two games they’ve beaten two promotion rivals in Sunderland and Sheffield United, coming from behind in both games to leave themselves with a five point cushion at the top of the Championship table.

On Monday night, Junior Firpo, Ao Tanaka, and Joel Piroe scored as Leeds beat Sheffield United 3-1 at Bramall Lane. Daniel Farke’s side now have just 12 games left and a seven point buffer inside the top two.

Whilst the final run in will be a long and daunting one for the Whites, there’s more and more expectation now that Leeds will go on to earn promotion from the Championship this season. That, in turn, could indicate at a big summer transfer window, with Farke likely to move for those he failed to sign in the January transfer window.

Nico Elvedi transfer update shared as Leeds United retain interest

Nico Elvedi may well be Leeds United’s no.1 target right now. It looks as though he was in January with Leeds United linked with Elvedi throughout the month, as Farke eyed up a reunion with his former Borussia Monchengladbach star.

Since, it’s been revealed that Monchengladbach will sell Elvedi for £7.5million in the summer despite previous reports stating that the Bundesliga side wanted £10million for Swiss international Elvedi. Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has provided some extra clarity on his situation, revealing that the 28-year-old defender wants a Premier League move in the summer.

Jacobs tells GIVEMESPORT: “Leeds really like Nico Elvedi, and he was a name that we exclusively revealed Leeds were tracking. I think Wolves and Brentford have also discussed him as well, and the player is open to a move.

“But if that [move] is to England, he believes he’s of the standard and wants to play in the Premier League. So nothing was really possible for Leeds and Elvedi in January, not without a U-turn in the player’s position.”

Borussia Monchengladbach summer transfer plans are good news for Leeds United

Farke’s former club have a few players seemingly on the radars of other clubs ahead of the summer, with Elvedi being just one. But recent reports have revealed that Borussia Monchengladbach are planning a summer overhaul which could see Elvedi moved on.

He remains under contract until the summer of 2027 but it appears as though Elvedi is starting to make things really clear regarding his future: he wants a move to the Premier League whilst he’s in his prime years.

Leeds could be the perfect fit given the Farke link and given their need for defenders in the summer. They just have to earn promotion before anything else, which is of course easier said than done.
