There’s a new name reportedly on Leeds United’s transfer radar. But whether it’s a signing that gets fans excited remains up for debate.
Leeds United have been promoted to the Premier League and with it has come a new wave of interest in the transfer market.
Already we’ve seen a handful of new names added to Daniel Farke’s transfer wishlist: Leeds United have an interest in Borja Sainz at Norwich City whilst AZ Alkmaar’s Kasper Boogard has been mentioned too.
There’s also talks of potential outgoings too with Spurs mentioned alongside Harry Gray, coming up to a year after they signed Archie Gray from Leeds United in a £30million transfer deal.
But there’s an overwhelming sense that Leeds United really need to nail this summer’s business if they’re to even stand a chance of survival next season, given how much last season’s promoted teams have all struggled this time round.
Leeds United in the hunt for Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure
The latest name linked with Leeds United may not do all that much to excite Leeds United fans: Abdoulaye Doucoure. The 32-year-old midfielder looks poised to leave Everton as a free agent this summer and Sport.FR say that the twice-capped Mali international has become a target for Leeds United.
Across stints with Watford and Everton, Doucoure has made 275 Premier League appearances including 30 in the top flight this season, along with three goals. Whilst an admirable record, it’s not a signing that screams ambition from Leeds United officials.
Leeds United fans have made their feelings quite clear about these type of signings amid recent suggestions that Leeds United should sign Raheem Sterling.

Leeds United fans react to Raheem Sterling suggestions
Recently, Paul Merson suggested that Arsenal’s departing attacker Sterling could be a good option for Leeds United upon their return to the Premier League. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Leeds United fans reacted negatively to the Sterling suggestion with their main worry being that he’s past his best.
The same could be said of Doucoure. Although he played an active role with Everton this season, he’s not someone who Leeds could bring in and see flourish for many years to come, and potentially sell on for profit one day.
Leeds United fans have made it quite clear that they want to see some more ambitious-thinking from the recruitment officials this summer and so Doucoure may not be a signing that excites them.
But if a signing purely for numbers and depth, it could be a useful one for the 2025/26 season at least.
