Junior Firpo is the latest Leeds United player in talks over an exit this summer.

Firpo is wanted by his former club Real Betis and discussions are now ongoing between the two clubs over a potential deal.

Betis have already signed two players from Leeds permanently since the start of the window and are keen to make it a hattrick by following the captures of both Marc Roca and Diego Llorente.

Firpo is also not the only member of last season’s first team squad the subject of talks with another club, with both Glen Kamara and Wilfried Gnonto potentially on their way out too.

Kamara is undergoing a medical at Rennes today ahead of an £8.6 million move, while Everton have reignited their interest in Gnonto. He wants the move.

How Firpo feels about leaving Leeds this summer

Firpo had actually been expected to leave Leeds last summer but a serious knee injury in pre-season saw him stay at Elland Road for another season.

That turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the 27-year-old, as he enjoyed his best run of form in a Leeds shirt after a difficult period since joining from Barcelona.

He established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Championship during the second half of the season, providing eight assists in 33 appearances.

As such, losing him would be another big blow for Daniel Farke and according to journalist Gonzalo Tortosa, Betis is a move Firpo would like to make.

It is said Firpo would be ‘willing to make an effort’ to ensure a return to his former club gets over the line, which could well represent a wage cut.

Firpo’s current salary at Elland Road could prove to be a stumbling block to an exit for him, but clearly Betis is the club he sees himself at next season.

Firpo has loan clause to leave Leeds

Alongside news of Betis’ interest breaking this morning, it also became apparent that Firpo has a loan clause in his deal this summer.

Losing him on loan would be detrimental for Leeds, given he is out of contract next summer and unlikely to be offered a new one.

The report from Tortosa, though, suggests the two clubs are in talks over a way they can ‘shape the operation’.

Given Roca also had the option to leave on loan again and Betis opted to sign him permanently, hopefully they can agree something similar here.
