Daniel Farke hints at making one signing for Leeds United in January transfer window

Daniel Farke reiterated in his press conference on Thursday afternoon that Leeds United will have a quiet window as things stand, but the German did hint at possibly making one new signing.

Injuries are aplenty at the moment at Leeds. Daniel Farke says Patrick Bamford, Joel Piroe and Max Wober will miss Saturday’s clash, while Ilia Gruev and Junior Firpo won’t be risked against Harrogate in the Cup.

Leeds sit at the top of the Championship table and suggests Leeds have all the tools to go and secure automatic promotion. But draws against Hull and Blackburn have worried supporters ahead of the run-in.

With Bamford and Piroe missing for Saturday’s third-round FA Cup clash and Joe Gelhardt expected to go to Hull City soon, Leeds will be left with just Mateo Joseph. Leeds might be tempted to sign a striker.

Daniel Farke says Leeds will stay ‘aware’ in search for a striker

Leeds have been linked with plenty. Dor Turgeman and Louie Barry have been touted as options for a while and more recently, Hoffenheim’s Mergim Berisha and Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Latte Lath might have been ruled out by the Yorkshire Evening Post, but Farke has made it clear that Leeds will keep an eye on the market amid the possibility of bringing in a new face in the final third.

“We have Joel Piroe, we have Mateo Joseph, we have a few young prospects in the academy and Willy Gnonto can play striker. We are not in panic mode, but it is definitely a position we should be aware of.

“I hope Patrick’s rehab is good, but he has struggled with injuries this season and we have to be aware a bit in this position until the end of January,” Farke told Thursday’s press conference in terms of a striker.

Is there any real need to sign a striker, even without Bamford?

Probably not. Even if Bamford and Gelhardt left this month, with Wrexham and Genoa eyeing Bamford, would Leeds even need a striker? Piroe might be unavailable for Saturday but he is regularly available.

It might be that he is just being rested on Saturday and understandably so. If Leeds brought in a striker, they are only going to be third choice unless it is a Premier League-ready striker ready to come in.

Any forward linked with Leeds and certainly, the likes of Latte Lath or Berisha, would not start for Leeds. If Leeds can convince a player to come in and warm the bench then great, but that seems very unlikely.
