Leeds United have been dealt another transfer blow in their ongoing quest for attacking reinforcements in the Premier League.

The club has reportedly missed out on an Argentine player who was on their radar for several weeks, as Atletico Madrid’s interest has proved to be stronger.

The player, valued by Juventus at around £26 million, is now reportedly heading to the Spanish capital.

This setback comes as the transfer window is set to close tomorrow evening at 7 pm.

Leeds’ search for a match-winner continues, following recent links to players like Gus Hamer and Emi Buendia, and a recent failed pursuit of Bilal El Khannouss, who has an agreement in principle to join Stuttgart.

Nico Gonzalez close to signing for Atletico Madrid

Fabrizio Romano shared on Twitter/X: “Understand agreement between Atlético and Juve for Nico González is very close!

“Understand it’s loan move with a fee plus buy option clause to become mandatory under certain conditions. Key issue: Nico’s registration must be approved by La Liga. No green light yet.”

This comes as a blow to Leeds United after the club’s interest in bringing the Argentine to Elland Road.

About two weeks ago, the YEP’s Graham Smyth reported that Leeds had shown interest in Juventus the winger and Argentina international.

Gonzalez would have been Leeds’ most expensive signing so far if they had secured his signature.

Despite conflicting reports that Gonzalez wanted to leave Juventus and that he had handed in a transfer request, it now appears that he is on his way to La Liga.

Daniel Farke’s final transfer plea ahead of transfer deadline day

Leeds United have been dealt blow after blow during this transfer window, and Farke has made his needs clear with the deadline incoming.

Leeds United have signed 10 new players but speaking after the Newcastle game, Farke said he is going to target another signing or two ahead of deadline day.

So far this summer, Leeds United have spent £100 million on new players, and despite this they’re still lacking a great finisher at the top of the pitch.

Farke has made clear he wants a versatile creative player at the very least, and since then Farke has doubled down on Leeds needing attacking additions to the 49ers publicly and maybe as many as two more if they are to survive the drop.
