Leeds United’s work in the transfer window up until July 26 was excellent. Lucas Perri had just arrived from Lyon after Leeds had beaten other clubs to land Anton Stach from Hoffenheim.

But now, it is August 12 and Leeds have failed to bring in any new signings since Perri joined the club for a £15.6m fee. It is less than a week until Leeds’ first Premier League game, and no striker has arrived.

No replacement for Manor Solomon has been bought. In the final third, there is an argument to be made that Leeds are actually worse off than they were last season, given Mateo Joseph has also left the club.

Patrick Bamford has been told he has no future and while Lukas Nmecha has come in and Jack Harrison has returned, Leeds are yet to make a big addition as they continue to pursue a winger and a striker.

Leeds interested in Nico Gonzalez at Juventus, the fee required

Over the weekend, the YEP’s Graham Smyth reported that Leeds had shown interest in Juventus winger and Argentina international Nico Gonzalez. The winger is a possible sale at Juve after just one season.

The feeling is that Gonzalez endured a poor season at Juventus after just nine goals and assists in 38 games for The Old Lady. It comes after 57 goals and assists in 125 games for Fiorentina prior to Juve.

With a sale likely as Juve build the cash necessary to sign Jadon Sancho, Italian newspaper Tuttosport claim Juventus will sell Gonzalez for a fee of £26m. Gonzalez has a contract at Juventus until June 2029.

How much is Nico Gonzalez earning in wages over at Juventus?

While his season at Juventus might not have been his best piece of work, this is a player that would see Leeds fans quickly forget about Igor Paixao. A maverick, he’s aggressive, but an absolute ton of quality.

Juve manager Igor Tudor once said as per JuveFC: “He is a lad who has a great heart and grit. He’s Argentine, so he’s someone who never holds back, always convincing. I also found an excellent person.”

This is not just a player with a handful of Argentina caps. This is a player with 43 appearances for his country in an attack that boasts Lionel Messi. Typically, Gonzalez is on a big wage with Juventus.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Gonzalez is earning £58,000 a week at Juventus and while that will be affordable for Leeds, the chances are he will be looking for a pay rise, too. Affordable, but expensive.
