Leeds United remain in the market for Bilal El Khannouss with the Leicester City ace gaining a few more admirers over the weekend after his two assists for The Foxes against Sheffield Wednesday.

Leeds have been strongly linked with a move for the Morocco international, ever since reports emerged that Leeds had held a meeting with El Khannouss’ camp, and said they would pay a £24.5m exit clause.

It is believed that the relegation release clause ends on August 15, or Friday to be exact. Leeds are yet to table a bid, though Graham Smyth reports El Khannouss would be very interested in a move to Leeds.

But after his two assists for Leicester on Sunday in a 2-1 win over Wednesday, interest is growing. Reports say Newcastle are interested in El Khannouss, while Tottenham could sign him to replace Son Heung-min.

Leeds United told new price for Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss

The initial reports of a £24.5m clause, which came from Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri among others, is now seemingly outdated. Ben Jacobs said a fee would be in the region of £22m for El Khannouss.

But now, Tavolieri has delivered an update on X and claims interested parties will have to pay a massive £29m to get their man. Whether Leeds are willing to pay another £4.5m remains to be seen this summer.

Tavolieri posted on X: “Bilal El Khannouss global release clause’s expected to be on £29M fee still waiting to be confirmed and potentially increased by an additional taxes that has to be confirmed by the FA.”

Bilal El Khannouss would be Leeds’ second biggest-ever signing

Not only would Leeds have to pay £4.5m more than first believed, and £7m more than the fee Jacobs touted, but it would see El Khannouss become Leeds’ second most-expensive signing in their history.

Leeds’ current club-record signing is Georginio Rutter at £35.5m, joining the club from Hoffenheim in January 2023 and leaving 18 months later for £40m. Leeds’ second-biggest signing is Rodrigo, for £27m.

El Khannouss would go above Rodrigo at £29m, which seems a big price for a player who managed just five goals and assists in the Premier League last season. But at 21, El Khannouss is a long-term signing.
