Daniel Farke’s thoughts on further Leeds United signings, including how many attackers
Firstly, Farke detailed his thoughts on Calvert-Lewin and Okafor. However, he then called for more attackers and a full-back.
He said: “Yes, we are quite open and honest about this. I don’t speak about names and about any rumours. But we’ve spoken about it.
“In the full-back position, we could need an addition. And we have also spoken before these signings, anyhow, that we would strengthen our offence. Yeah, let’s see if we do.
“Perhaps even a bit more in the offence. One, perhaps two, more signings would be beneficial.
“But, right now, especially with the signings of Dominic and Noah, the pressure is a bit away and we can concentrate right now on working with the boys.
“But I wouldn’t rule out, perhaps, one or two more signings in the offence, yes.
“It’s good that we have major parts or most of our business already done — and we can lean back a little bit and relax a bit more. Right now, we’re in a good position.
“I’m not too strong with my thoughts about numbers. I think it’s necessary to do something on the full-back position. The big pressure is a little bit away with the signings of Dominic and Noah.
“They are really, really good options for us in the offence. But, yes, to have one or two more signings for the offence, if we could do this, would be beneficial.
“But without doing anything stupid. Right now, we can have a look a bit more relaxed.”
Leeds United News has already detailed three more Leeds signings, including Manor Solomon potentially.
What Farke wants from his attacking midfielder at Leeds after Noah Okafor capture
However, Farke then detailed exactly what sort of playmaker he is now after to fill one of the two attacking additions mooted, having added Okafor in as more of a winger or wide forward profile.
Farke hasn’t ruled out bringing in a hybrid player, with a signing who can operate somewhere between a winger and No.10. Leeds have four players on the attacking midfield shortlist, per Beren Cross.
That includes some who can operate wider and others who are more naturally central. Facundo Buonanotte and Emi Buendia fit the bill of what Farke has described.
He added: “There is always room for more quality. We have different right now, that’s right. I think wingers who can also deliver lots of workload and also against the ball are pretty, pretty disciplined in this role.
“Also wingers with a kind of X-factor, some very quick wingers who are also good in one against one. Perhaps, a bit [lacking] is this No.10 type of winger.
“Who can perhaps, when we chase a game, could interpret the No.10 role slightly different to what we’ve done in pre-season once we’ve played with Ao Tanaka or Sean Longstaff.
“Perhaps this No.10 type of winger would be a good solution for our squad. So, there is always room for quality players. For that, we also won’t fall asleep in the upcoming days.”
Arguably, Leeds still haven’t replace Pablo Hernandez. His creativity and cutting edge to be a decisive player and match-winner in moments is the sort of thing this Leeds team needs.
He was also a hybrid player, with Hernandez able to operate well as a wide playmaker or as a natural No.10. Leeds are crying out for that differential now to finish off their attack.
