Leeds United are back in the Premier League and yet, Daniel Farke could be sacked despite securing a place in the top tier next season and Chris Wilder has had his say.

Leeds pipped Sheffield United to a place in the top two on Easter Monday thanks to a 6-0 win over Stoke City, before Burnley beat Sheffield United at Turf Moor. Two games left, eight points clear of The Blades.

But despite all that, Farke’s future is under threat – even after Paraag Marathe praised Farke for his work in getting Leeds promoted. Many are pointing to Farke’s record in the Premier League as a reason to sack.

There are sections of the Leeds support that may want Farke gone even after promotion. Even if he has got Leeds up and the situation during his time at Norwich City was a complete world apart to now.

Chris Wilder comments on Daniel Farke potential sack reports

Simon Grayson says Farke will stay at Leeds and Jermaine Beckford has urged Leeds to keep him. Those of a Leeds persuasion believe the German will remain in the hotseat, even if Jose Mourinho comes calling.

Asked about The 49ers considering the axe for Farke, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder said it would be “ridiculous” but made the point that it happens, having spoken to Farke on the phone after promotion.

“I get it,” he said. “It has changed, the game, on a lot of fronts. we all understand the negative part of the job. I had a half-hour conversation with Dan and enjoyed it. He’s a good guy, it’s a great achievement.

“That isn’t a straightforward club, loads of things going for it but there is pressure on all of us, at different levels. I imagine he has the most to deal with. The good things that come with it are offset by other parts.

“To football people, that’s a ridiculous idea, or approach or decision, to football people internally. But maybe externally these are things that do happen and everyone has to deal with it and understand it.”

Why Daniel Farke has a much better chance of success at Leeds

His time at Norwich in the Premier League was woeful. He lasted the entire 2019-20 season, only to lose 27 of 38 games and finish the season with just 21 points. He was sacked after 11 games in 2021-22.

Six wins in 49 Premier League games. But Farke was given no money and had injuries to deal with. It is something he has alluded to at Leeds, saying he had to play players not ready for the Premier League.

Phil Hay says The 49ers and RedBull give Leeds a chance of survival due to their ability to spend. They are big resources that give Leeds a real chance of spending big and if done widely, remaining at the top.
