Willy Gnonto’s Leeds United future was always going to be a topic of conversation this month.
Against all odds, Leeds were able to retain the services of Gnonto in the summer after he had looked to force through a move to Everton, by refusing to play and handing in a transfer request.
After apologising to Daniel Farke and Angus Kinnear, Gnonto was welcomed back into the fold in late August, but it would be fair to say that his season has not gone to plan.
Since recovering from an injury in early October, Gnonto has started just two matches due to the fine form of Crysencio Summerville and Dan James. This has again sparked reports from Italy suggesting he wants out.
Once they resurfaced, Gnonto was quick to shut down those reports on Instagram, and the Athletic’s David Ornstein has today provided an update on his future, suggesting there have been no developments since the summer.

He wrote: “Had no info to this effect so far, Phil. Clearly isn’t getting the minutes he would like but he has still played 20-odd games and I don’t see Leeds wanting to risk weakening themselves as they push for promotion.
“We all saw what happened last summer and since things got patched up, I haven’t yet heard more rumblings of a move.”
Farke has made it clear that he does not want to lose anyone from his squad this month due to the battle for promotion, and while Gnonto has not started as much as he would’ve liked, he still falls under that category.
Farke has repeatedly spoken about how pleased he has been with Gnonto’s attitude behind-the-scenes recently, which should be enough to know he is fully committed.
Phil Hay has also reported that Gnonto is even thinking about changing agents. It was down to his representatives during the summer as to why there was so much speculation.
Hopefully Gnonto can just enjoy a quiet transfer window this month so he can focus on his football and get back into the team.
