Fabrizio Romano claims that Willy Gnonto could leave Leeds United in the January transfer window and has commented on rumours that Tottenham Hotspur could be interested in the Italian attacker.
Gnonto, 19, is struggling to break into the starting line-up at Leeds, even though the club have been relegated to the Championship. Refusal to play and injury has seen him fall down the pecking order.
The winger has started just one of our last 10 Championship matches, reduced to the role as a sub. It has also seen him relegated from Italy’s senior squad, to their Under-21 side during the current break.
Numerous reports say Gnonto could leave – his lack of game time hampering his chances of being included in Italy’s Euro 2024 squad. Calcio Style say Lazio are eyeing a loan, with a £13m obligation.
The Express reported in a piece earlier today that Tottenham and Leeds could come to an agreement in a surprise swap – including Gnonto and Joe Rodon. There was no suggestion of that actually happening.
Speaking to Caught Offside on Monday, Italian reporter Romano commented on rumours that Gnonto wanted to leave Elland Road, and that Tottenham were possibly interested in signing the Italy winger.
“His departure is a possibility this January. He could leave but depends on the proposal. Negotiating with Leeds is never easy. Despite rumours, I have no confirmation of Tottenham links at this stage.”

Tottenham would be a good move for Gnonto. He would be alongside Italy teammate Destiny Udogie, in a side that are in need of additions out wide. Behind Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, they lack depth.
Richarlison is out of action for a while. Bryan Gil remains at the club but he might want a move. Gnonto would get decent game time in an attacking side and clearly, Leeds and Spurs have a good relationship.
If Spurs do want to sign Gnonto, which is perfectly plausible, then surely the two clubs have to consider a swap that involves Rodon moving to Elland Road permanently. It is unclear if Rodon wants to sign on.
