Lazio are planning a loan for Willy Gnonto in January that includes an obligation to buy the Leeds United star in the summer, worth around £13.1m – with the player continuing to generate interest.

Gnonto is struggling to break into the Leeds starting line-up at the moment with Cree Summerville and Dan James on fire. Italian outlet Calcio Style say Lazio are very interested in luring Gnonto back to Italy.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is a big fan of Gnonto and is keen to sign the winger, but it will need us to reduce our asking price. Lazio are planning a loan, with an obligation that is worth just north of £13m.

Given that Leeds bought Gnonto for an overall fee of £5.2m from Zurich in the summer of 2022, it would see Leeds make a profit of very close to £8m on Gnonto, in less than two years. But, he’s worth more.

Indeed, previous reports have suggested that Gnonto is worth far north of the £20m mark but given his lack of game time in recent months, Leeds may feel it is best to cash in while it is still a tidy profit.

Lazio are planning a loan deal for Leeds United star Willy Gnonto

A move to Lazio for Gnonto will be hard to turn down. They are currently in the Champions League, and look good to go and qualify for the knockout stages in a group that also includes Celtic and Feyenoord.

Difficult to turn down for Gnonto. Differing reports have been made regarding his stance on his future so far, some suggesting he has requested to go – largely, originating from Italy. Others, dismissing those.

Leeds will feel that Gnonto is worth more than the £13.1m Lazio are willing to include in a loan deal for the wide man. But, with his game time limited, his price tag is plummeting. A decision to make on him.
