Angus Kinnear shares how Willy Gnonto now feels at Leeds after transfer window ‘wobble’

Angus Kinnear says Wilfried Gnonto is now fully ‘committed’ to Leeds United after his ‘wobble’ in the transfer window.

Kinnear was speaking in an exclusive interview with the Square Ball, where he discussed a number of topics after a difficult last two years at Elland Road.

Among the things under discussion were the events surrounding Gnonto and how he conducted himself in an attempt to force through a move to Everton.

Gnonto refused to play in matches against Shrewsbury Town and Birmingham City before handing in a transfer request hours before the draw with West Bromwich Albion.

However, Gnonto was then welcomed back into the fold the following week by Daniel Farke after the Italian apologised to both him and Kinnear in face-to-face talks.

Kinnear says Gnonto now ‘pleased’ to be at Leeds

Gnonto has started three matches in all competitions since his return to the fold, scoring in the 4-3 win at Ipswich Town during his first game back.

Kinnear believes that Gnonto’s situation has been ‘blown out of proportion’ after taking some poor advice from his agent, and is now fully ‘committed’ to the season ahead.

He said: “Unfairly on Willy that’s been the one that has been sort of blown out of proportion because ultimately I think Willy had a wobble around an offer that was received and probably took some bad advice from his advisors briefly and then it was resolved very very quickly.

“I think you know we’ve seen from Willy’s performances he’s pleased to be here and he’s committed and I think he’ll have a great season.”

It does now feel like the situation regarding Gnonto is firmly behind everyone at the club, and the majority of supporters seem to have forgiven him.

If his last three performances are anything to go by, he does certainly seem fully on the board with the cause under Farke and long may that continue.
