Leeds United’s game against Oxford United was watched by many nervy Whites fans and indeed Burnley and Sheffield United fans too. And also a certain Barcelona legend.
Leeds United got the job done on Friday night. It wasn’t pretty, and it was decided by a sole Manor Solomon goal in the end, but Leeds United beat Oxford United 1-0 to retain their spot at the top of the Championship table.
Earlier in the day Burnley had beaten Watford and then Sheffield United beat Cardiff City 2-0 to leave Leeds with all the pressure going into the evening kick off. Daniel Farke’s claim that ‘Leeds United will 100% be promoted‘ now looks set to come true.
The Whites face Stoke City on Monday. If Sheffield United lose or draw in their game against Burnley later that night then Leeds United will be promoted to the Premier League, if they win themselves.
Leeds’ game against Stoke City kicks off at 3pm on Monday at Elland Road.

Patrick Kluivert spotted in the stands at Oxford United 0-1 Leeds United
During the game against Oxford, the Sky Sports cameras panned to Barcelona and Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert in the stands. It was confusing at first but it later made sense, with Kluivert head coach of the Indonesia national team and watching Oxford United’s Indonesian duo Ole Romeny and Marselino Ferdinan in action.
Kluivert, now 48, is best known for his time at Barcelona between 1998 and 2004 where he scored an incredible 122 goals for the club. He’s also a legend on the international scene too with 40 goals in 79 caps for the Netherlands.
No doubt, he was someone who Leeds United striker Joel Piroe looked up to as a youngster, and Piroe even got a picture with Kluivert after the game.
Daniel Farke backed to replace Joel Piroe at Leeds United this summer
Throughout the season, Leeds United have been linked with several strikers. But ahead of what looks like a likely return to the Premier League expect the 49ers to bring in at least a couple of new strikers, one potentially being Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.
Leeds United are being linked with Ferguson ahead of the summer and speaking recently, Lee Hendrie said Ferguson would be an upgrade on Piroe, saying: “He would be a great addition to the Leeds squad and may be an upgrade on Joel Piroe, who I think is still capable of producing good moments for Leeds.”
He certainly would be. Piroe hasn’t scored in nine games now despite being Leeds’ top scorer with 15 in the Championship this season. The Dutchman could well be up for grabs if Leeds manage to bring in better strikers this summer.
