Leeds United fans are delighted on Wednesday morning after their side returned to winning ways, and returned to the top of the Championship table on Tuesday night.
Leeds United beat Middlesbrough 1-0 away from home in what might prove to be the turning point for Daniel Farke’s side in this season’s Championship title race.
It’s not only a win that lifts Leeds United back into 1st place of the table, but it’s one that’ll instil some huge confidence into the side after a rocky patch of form.
Though the game wasn’t without its controversies. Linesman Darren Williams is coming under scrutiny after Ao Tanaka’s disallowed goal in the first half and Patrick Bamford’s in the second half.
Leeds United fans fume after finding out about Darren Williams
Journalist Adam Pope revealed on X that Williams has in fact denied Leeds, and controversially so, on two other occasions this year.
“There has to be an enquiry into this and he can no longer officiate Leeds United games,” said one Leeds supporter. Another posted: “If that’s the case, the club want to take action against him and the FA. It is scandalous.”
“Club need to do something about this surely?” asked one Leeds fan, as this supporter angrily wrote on X: “Unbelievable! He shouldn’t be any near a Leeds game ever again!”
Other comments read: “Surely the club need to ask for an investigation to be launched,” as well as: “That’s a disgrace shouldn’t be anywhere near our games rest of season.”
The decisions that Darren Williams has cost Leeds United this season
The Tanaka goal has caused a lot of anger online with Neil Warnock blasting Williams over the decision, along with Farke.
Farke has rued the refereeing decisions against Middlesbrough and it’s Williams again: he denied Joel Piroe a goal against Millwall in March and also disallowed a Wilfried Gnonto goal against Coventry City in February.
Both times, the decision was incorrect. Now this Tanaka decision adds salt to the wounds but thankfully, it didn’t matter in the end, as Leeds got the three points.
