What Ethan Ampadu forced Patrick Bamford to do after Middlesbrough 0-1 Leeds United, he was ‘reluctant’

Leeds United returned to winning ways in dramatic and controversial fashion on Tuesday night, beating Middlesbrough 1-0 at the Riverside.

Leeds United’s win over Middlesbrough comes at the perfect time for Daniel Farke, who’s gone from hero, to zero, and back to hero within the space of a handful of games.

Before the game at Boro, Leeds United drew with Luton Town to find themselves in 3rd place of the Championship table, and at risk of watching their season fall apart in typical fashion.

But on Tuesday night, Sheffield United lost against Millwall and Burnley drew at Derby County, allowing for Leeds United to move back into 1st place of the table after a 1-0 win away at Middlesbrough.

Dan James scored the only goal of the game. But Ao Tanaka and Patrick Bamford both had goals ruled out in quite controversial fashion; the latter playing the final 20 minutes of the game and scoring a neatly-taken goal, only for it to be disallowed.

Patrick Bamford shares moment with Leeds United fans after Middlesbrough win

Bamford is a divisive player among the Elland Road faithful. But on the whole he’s someone that’s given the Leeds United fans a lot of good memories, has stuck with the club through some pretty tough times, and has always had an eye for goal, albeit having proved inconsistent in front of goal at times.

His disallowed goal against Middlesbrough would’ve made for a nice return to action having come off the bench in the last two games now, with Bamford having been injured for several weeks. Then after the game, captain Ethan Ampadu forced Bamford in front of the singing away end to share a moment with those who travelled.

Bamford and his teammates were reluctant to go in for the three cheers but Ampadu shoved Bamford in front of the away end, who gladly replied.

Patrick Bamford’s brilliant message after Middlesbrough 0-1 Leeds United

Tuesday night actually saw Bamford make his 200th appearance for Leeds United. In those 200 games he’s scored 60 goals and assisted 23 more, although he’s yet to score in 12 Championship appearances in 2024/25.

After the game, Bamford posted a message to Leeds United fans, writing: “A privilege to make my 200th appearance tonight for Leeds United, great to finish it with 3 points and a goal. We keep going.”

Bamford’s return to action comes at a crucial time for Farke; not only is it the run in and not only are Leeds United in mixed form, but Joel Piroe is finding it hard to score right now with no goals in his last seven appearances for the Whites.
