Leeds United are not expecting to welcome back many, if any of the players currently out on loan.
The Whites saw eight members of last season’s first team squad depart on loan in the summer following relegation from the Premier League back in May and it is unlikely that they now have a future at the club.
Robin Koch has already seen his move to Eintracht Frankfurt turned permanent, though his contract at Elland Road was due to expire at the end of the season anyway.
As for the others, there is also interest in turning some of them permanent. Real Betis are keen on extending Marc Roca’s stay, Diego Llorente is wanted by PSG and Sean Dyche would like to keep Jack Harrison.
However, speaking on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast, Phil Hay says Harrison is the only player from that group who has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave on loan again, if Leeds aren’t promoted.
Harrison has second loan clause
He said: “I believe Harrison is one where it does, so if Leeds don’t go up I think I am right in saying there is scope in his contract for him to go out on loan in similar fashion again, but I don’t think it applies to many.”
It was reported a couple of months back that this was the case with Harrison, but contrary to reports elsewhere, it would appear that no one else has this clause.
It had been claimed in Spain that Betis would have another opportunity to sign Roca on a season-long-loan if Leeds remain in the Championship, but that is not the case.
This latest development on Harrison just makes his long-term contract renewal a month before the end of last season an incredibly strange decision.
The option to go out on loan for one year is enough, never mind two, particularly when he is someone who Leeds could get a decent transfer fee for.
