Ben Jacobs shares the ‘big one to watch’ for at Leeds United as Daniel Farke eyes transfer

Daniel Farke will have to endure obstacles this January as he looks to bolster his Leeds United squad in a bid for promotion back to the Premier League.

It’s set to be an exciting couple of weeks for Leeds as the transfer window is now in full swing and despite Daniel Farke making it clear he ‘doesn’t expect signings’, this may not be the case.

Leeds have already been linked with a strong number of players with the Whites interested in a minimum of 19 players before the window began.

Expect failed deals and tricky negotiations, as Farke will know the difficulty of acquiring some of his targets.

Leeds United looking into defensive department with left-back being a ‘big one to watch’

It’s not a secret that most of Leeds United’s defensive department is struggling for fitness, as Jayden Bogle and Sam Byram suffered new injuries in Leeds’ 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers.

Farke has said Bogle and Byram should be okay for the game against Hull City, but it’s already added to concern on top of Ethan Ampadu and Max Wober’s ability to stay fit this season.

Speaking on TalkSport (6:25), transfer expert, Ben Jacobs, detailed Leeds’ desire in the transfer window with a key position being ‘one to watch’.

“Left-back I’m being told is the big one to watch. They want a centre-back or right-back, Nico Elvedi is someone they love.

“It’s a difficult window for Leeds to strengthen in.”

Nico Elvedi is someone who has stuck around in this transfer window, with Daniel Farke being a big fan of Elvedi.

Leeds’ challenge has been set and if any more defensive issues occur, Farke may have to double down on meeting his requirements.

Leeds United still have ‘concern’ about full-back position a year on

The Leeds faithful may be experiencing a slight case of Deja Vu, with January 2024 certainly revolving around the focus of full-back depth.

Farke may be looking at full-back targets for Leeds and this was the case whilst they were in a similar position in the Championship last year.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT last year, journalist Dean Jones believed this was an area that Leeds were concerned about.

“It’s funny because when you speak to people around Leeds, all they’re really saying is that the full-back positions are really important.

“They are a little bit concerned about the depth that they’ve got at right back. I think you’d be better off signing somebody that can cover both positions.”

Daniel Farke will be hoping to make sure the full-back scenario is sorted this January and avoid the same mistake a year on.
