Following Leeds United’s 1-1 draw versus Blackburn Rovers on Monday night, Daniel Farke’s attention may turn to securing a full-back after new revelations.
Leeds are certainly in the conversation regarding transfer talk, with Farke’s side already taking the headlines in the Championship when it comes to incomings.
Many factors would have been taken from the Blackburn draw, and one striking detail is that Leeds are in desperate need of signings.
Sam Byram and Jayden Bogle both suffered injuries on New Year’s Day and with Max Wober and underwhelming summer signing Isaac Schmidt filling as squad options, full-back recruitment is definitely something that has crept up on Farke’s radar.
With that in mind, here are three realistic full-back options for Leeds in the January transfer window.
Luke Thomas – Leicester City
If Farke is remaining adamant on his quiet transfer approach this January, a loan option at full-back may be a viable situation.
Luke Thomas has struggled to find any sort of game time at Leicester City and even after the new opportunity of Ruud Van Nistelrooy joining, the 23-year-old has still been left on the bench continuously.
Thomas endured previous loan spells in the Championship last campaign with Middlesbrough and Sheffield United, as Leeds could prove to be a saving grace for Thomas.
Leeds had an offer for Thomas rejected in the summer of 2023 whilst in the Premier League, now, due to the defender’s situation it could ignite talks once more.
The Leicester left-back could provide a long-term option if he impressed at Elland Road and judging by his brilliant form at the start of his Foxes career, it’s certainly one Farke should consider.
Khuliso Mudau – Mamelodi Sundowns
Another short-term option for Farke is an obscure target to say the least with Khuliso Mudau residing in South Africa, and after previous interest, Mudau is in the frame again with Leeds interested.
The 29-year-old is a veteran in the South African Premiership and has been a part of Mamelodi Sundowns for five seasons, winning the league title in every campaign so far.
A deal felt unlikely for Mudau, but following the injury to Byram, the right-back could provide much-needed cover but would no doubt add a different level of experience to Farke’s side.
Keelan Adams – Falkirk
Another outside choice for Farke, is to recruit in Scotland, as Falkirk’s Keelan Adams is proving to be a rising star in the Scottish Championship.
Although unproven, Adams has attracted interest from Leeds, Swansea City, and Rangers, and after his involvement in eight goals from right-back, he could be used as an exciting attacking option from defence for Farke.
Adams could tempt Leeds now after the loss of Byram and Bogle, who have added to the absence of Junior Firpo.
