How Leeds United’s five loanees have fared so far this season as Jack Harrison endures nightmare start

Leeds United have considerably less players out on loan this season in comparison to the 2023/24 campaign.

It was a summer of real change at Elland Road as the majority of those on the fringes of Daniel Farke‘s squad were either sold or released, as opposed to being allowed to leave temporarily for another year.

The likes of Luis Sinisterra, Robin Koch, Marc Roca and Diego Llorente have all now completed permanent moves away, while Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober are back at the club.

Ian Poveda, Cody Drameh, Luke Ayling and Lewis Bate spent parts of last season out on loan, too, but all left on a free transfer during the summer window.

As such, there are now only five players out on loan from Leeds this term and here is how they have got on so far.

Jack Harrison

Despite rumours Everton would be signing him permanently, Jack Harrison was once again able to make use of the loan clause that was still active after Leeds’ failure to win promotion and return to Goodison Park.

Harrison had a mixed season on Merseyside last season but his start to the new campaign has been nothing short of miserable.

Everton sit bottom of the Premier League having lost all three matches so far, including 90 minutes in their incredible weekend collapse against Bournemouth. Harrison is still yet to register a single goal or assist.

Rasmus Kristensen

Alongside Harrison, Rasmus Kristensen was the only other of the 2023 loan army to leave on a temporary basis again as his shocker of a season at AS Roma somehow earned him a move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kristensen has fared slightly better than Harrison so far after playing 90 minutes in a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim at the weekend.

However, it won’t come as a surprise to many that Kristensen was turned inside out for one of Borussia Dortmund’s goals in a 2-0 defeat on the opening day.

Darko Gyabi

After picking up an injury that ruled him out for the final two months of the season while at Plymouth Argyle, Darko Gyabi returned to Home Park for a second time in the summer.

Gyabi is now working under Wayne Rooney at Argyle and it would be fair to say he has not got off to the best of starts.

Rooney is still searching for his first league win as Argyle boss with Gyabi having started three of the four matches so far. Good experience for him regardless of the results.

Sam Greenwood

Perhaps the summer would’ve been a good time to move Sam Greenwood on permanently after an indifferent time at Middlesbrough, but he instead earned a loan switch to Preston North End.

Greenwood is already working under a different manager to the one that signed him back in July, with former Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom now at the helm.

The once £3 million signing from Arsenal is yet to have any real impact in a struggling start to the league campaign, but did net an incredible free-kick in a 5-0 win at Harrogate Town in the Carabao Cup.

Sonny Perkins

With his contract up at the end of the season, Sonny Perkins‘ Leeds career is all but over anyway but he really needs to use this loan as the catalyst that kick starts his career.

Perkins spent the first half of the 23/24 campaign at Oxford United before being recalled in January after playing just five minutes of league action.

So far, it has not been much better for him at Leyton Orient, either. Perkins has come off the bench in all four matches, with Orient on the losing side in each of them.
