Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente both left Leeds United on loan for Roma in the summer.
The defensive duo were two of eight players who departed the Whites on a temporary deal after the club’s relegation from the Premier League in May.
Llorente had spent the second half of last season at Roma but after their reluctance to pay the originally agreed option-to-buy, another loan deal was negotiated.
Kristensen, meanwhile, had only been at Leeds for one season following his move from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, but opted to activate the loan clause in his contract after a dreadful debut campaign in England.
Leeds’ defence was always a weak point under Jesse Marsch and it’s fair to say there weren’t many supporters disappointed to see the back of either player. What they did for Roma on Sunday will bring back bad memories.
Kristensen and Llorente defending costs Roma
Roma were in action at Inter Milan on Sunday evening and had managed to hold out for all of 80 minutes, despite repeated pressure from the home side.
However, in the 81st minute both Kristensen and Llorente were at fault as Marcus Thuram netted from close range to win the game for the home side.
Kristensen had struggled to deal with Federico Dimarco all game and once again gave him far too much time and space to whip in a cross from the left.
Finally for Dimarco, one of his crosses connected as Thuram was able to escape the attentions of Llorente inside the six-yard box to score, with the Spaniard switching off at a crucial time.
These sort of mistakes will come as no surprise to Leeds supporters based on their respective spells at Elland Road, but if this keeps happening, there is no chance Roma will convert either into permanent deals.
