Frank Lampard and Leeds United are certainly the best of enemies and that was evident in the Whites’ 2-0 victory against Coventry City.

Lampard’s Sky Blues were no match for Daniel Farke’s side as Leeds ran out 2-0 victors leaving fans to mock the former Chelsea man.

Leeds fans told Lampard to ‘stop crying’ as the famous chant reemerged in Coventry’s defeat.

It wasn’t over for the Coventry manager as Leeds’ club media even mocked Lampard, as the rivalry has remained strong.

However, it could’ve been so much different as instead of an arch-rival, Lampard could’ve been a Leeds club legend.

How Frank Lampard almost joined Leeds United for £10 million

The rivalry between the two sides started ever since Marcelo Bielsa spying on Lampard, also known as ‘Spygate’.

Lampard would probably admit the hatred for Leeds if he could, but in another life, the pairing would be admired by each other.

In 2001, the Whites had a plan to reunite Lampard with Rio Ferdinand, whom they had signed a year before.

The Sun reported at the time that Leeds, amid their extravagant spending spree, were lining up a £10million move for Lampard.

It was then reported by the Telegraph that West Ham rejected two bids around the £ 12 million mark from unnamed clubs, which ultimately put Leeds’ pursuit to an end.

What Lampard said about Daniel Farke’s Leeds squad

There are no meetings for the rest of the season, but there is a slim chance the two meet once again in the Premier League.

Leeds are looking like strong favourites for promotion at the moment whereas Cov are lingering on the edge of the playoffs, so there is every chance both end up in the Premier League next season.

Despite both sides of the story not getting on, Lampard couldn’t help but praise Leeds which is a rare occurrence.

The Coventry boss said Farke’s team are a ‘threat’ and that is definitely evident as they can make it 15 games unbeaten with a win against Sunderland on Monday.

Remarkably Lampard could’ve been wearing the famous white shirt in Yorkshire, but Leeds fans will probably like the way it is.
