Frank Lampard was unsurprisingly the target for Leeds United fans at the CBS arena on Wednesday night, as Daniel Farke’s men secured a comfortable 2-0 win away from home.
First-half goals from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle secured a 19th Championship win from 31 games as Leeds restored the five-point gap between themselves and the play-off positions, going 14 unbeaten.
Leeds came into the game after scoring seven against Cardiff at Elland Road, and arguably could have had as many goals on Wednesday night. But Leeds were wasteful in the final third, missing many chances.
But still, it is a comfortable win even if Illan Meslier had to make a couple of saves on the night. Leeds fans heaped praise on Meslier, while those at the stadium targeted Lampard with some songs at the end.

What Leeds United fans sang to Frank Lampard near full-time
Of course, the rivalry with Lampard comes from the Spygate scandal involving Marcelo Bielsa. Lampard has since said that it didn’t bother him that much, but Patrick Bamford recalls an angry call from Lampard.
Since then, Leeds fans have developed a song to the tune of Oasis’ Stop Crying Your Heart Out that is aimed at Lampard – telling the Chelsea and England legend to ‘stop crying Frank Lampard’.
The Athletic’s Beren Cross reported on his X channel that Leeds fans broke out in song towards the end of the game: “Stop crying, Frank Lampard” has had its first airing in a few years tonight.”
What Frank Lampard did in front of Leeds fans after full-time
Never a man to realise his surroundings or understand when to keep his mouth shut, Lampard was seen reacting to Leeds supporters after full-time despite watching his Coventry side suffer a 2-0 defeat.
Indeed, the YEP’s Joe Donnohue was in attendance alongside Cross and he reported that Lampard was seen cupping his ears in gesture to the fans: “Frank Lampard has just cupped his ear to the #LUFC fans.”
Next up for Leeds then, is Millwall again in the fourth round of The FA Cup on the weekend. Then, Leeds go to Watford next Tuesday night, with 15 Championship games left to play in the race for promotion.
