Leeds United sold Georginio Rutter last summer, with Brighton and Hove Albion signing the versatile attacker in a big-money move.
For the most part, Georginio Rutter was a revelation for Leeds United two seasons ago when he bagged 23 goal contributions, which warranted the £40 million move to the Premier League.
He’s proven to be successful with Brighton, and the likes of Darren Bent have found Rutter enjoyable so far since his move, while Whites fans will miss his enthusiasm and general presence around Elland Road.
For that reason, for most fans, he still holds a special place for the club in their hearts. The same is true of the Frenchman in some ways, as Rutter has Leeds memorabilia in his house.

Georginio Rutter changes to a new shirt number after one season at Brighton after leaving Leeds
Replacing Rutter won’t be easy for Leeds, and neither will the reunion. They are yet to replace his ability in the No.10 role either last summer, in January, or this summer.
His efforts were why Rutter had a tearful farewell when he left Leeds. His impact was sizeable in spite of the club falling short in the play-off final at Wembley in 2024.
| Team | Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Leeds United | 2022/23 (Premier League) | 13 | 0 | 1 |
| Leeds United | 2023/24 (Championship) | 51 | 8 | 16 |
| Leeds United | 2024/25 (Championship) | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Brighton & Hove Albion | 2024/25 (Premier League) | 32 | 8 | 4 |
Pep Guardiola said Rutter is ‘fantastic’ but it’s not Man City showing any interest, with Chelsea monitoring Rutter’s progress since his switch to the south coast.
With Rutter being the most two-footed Premier League player, Chelsea could land a gem, and it’s all thanks to Leeds’ development. The latest, however, is yet another interesting wrinkle in Rutter’s story in English football.
At senior level, Rutter has worn various shirt numbers. Those include 33, 35, 24, and 14, with 24 the number he bore during his time with Leeds.
At youth level, the likes of 11, nine, seven, and 10 have also been utilised. The last time he had the latter was in a 2023 youth team game for Leeds. Now, he will finally wear it again, having announced a change with Brighton.
It came against Aston Villa in a Premier League 2 game. Brenden Aaronson and Mateo Joseph were also present during a 2-1 win for the Whites.

Former Leeds man James Milner explains Brighton shirt number change
James Milner has also vacated his six shirt at Brighton to take the number 20, in tribute to his former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota.
He said: “Yeah, once I heard Carlos [Baleba] was looking to change his number and 20 was available, I wanted to do it as a mark of respect.
“And, obviously, to pay tribute to Diogo Jota. Who was an amazing player and I was fortunate to play with and a great friend as well.
“[It’ll] be a great honour to wear his number in the Premier League this year.”
