Leeds United are a Premier League club again, which means they have to operate differently both on the pitch and behind the scenes.

The 49ers and Daniel Farke are looking to build the Leeds United squad to ensure the club have a strong chance of survival in the Premier League in 2025/26.

They have made seven additions to the first-team squad so far, with more yet to come. However, the latest change at the club is one to Elland Road and the matchday experience.

Leeds will be making a change to the running order of matchday music, following supporter consultation. It will be trialled today against La Liga side Villarreal in their penultimate pre-season friendly as well.

Leeds United fans react to Elland Road matchday changes

For the new season, Fanfare for the Common Man will be played, along with Strings for Yasmin as the players leave the tunnel and enter the pitch, followed by the Premier League Anthem.

Once the Premier League Anthem has finished, Leeds, Leeds, Leeds (Marching on Together), will then be played in full, without any interruptions ahead of the match kicking-off.

Fans have since reacted to the change which will mean MOT isn’t interrupted, with numerous taking to Twitter/X to voice their support of the decision.

A further reply read: “The way it needs to be!”

Another added: “Well done. This one is spot on and how it always should have been. The south stand and away tickets change however…”

A further response was not quite as praiseworthy given the other changes being made, saying: “good decision, but cheek of them to mention supporter consultation 🤣”

Similarly, another added: “I mean, it’s the right thing but the cheek of mentioning supporter consultation 🤣”

Of course, they are referring to the fact the South Stand could house fans in the future. That was also after reported consultation, with many Leeds supporters opposed to the changes at Elland Road.

Elland Road’s redevelopment latest

The riches of the Premier League don’t just mean improvements on the pitch with the playing squad, but the 49ers plan to use some cash on reshaping Elland Road as well.

That doesn’t just mean significantly expanding Elland Road’s capacity, but also redeveloping aspects of the stadium and surrounding areas to improve the matchday experience, including a multi-storey car park and tram links at Elland Road.

Leeds City Council has agreed to negotiate a sale of land, while the 49ers have already announced plans to take Elland Road’s capacity from 37,792 to closer to 56,500.

Leeds’ redevelopment plans are in place but a final decision on Elland Road is imminent in the coming weeks and months, with final details yet to be finalised or altered.
