Leeds United were no doubt shocked when Brighton paid out Georginio Rutter’s release clause but a potential next move is already on the cards.

Rutter was a revelation for Leeds last season as 23 goal contributions warranted the £40m move to the Premier League.

He’s proven successful with Brighton, as Darren Bent has found Rutter enjoyable, and Whites fans will miss his presence around Elland Road.

Well, he still holds a special place for the club in his heart, as Rutter has Leeds memorabilia in his house.

A long way down the line, both player and club might meet again soon, but Rutter has now been added to a European giant’s shortlist.

Premier League giant shortlist former Leeds United star Georginio Rutter

With the Whites selling the attacker on for £40m in the summer, you’d expect Rutter to remain with the Seagulls for a while.

But remember, this is Brighton we’re talking about, the kings of buying and selling on players.

This could be exactly what they do this summer, as Leeds fans will be taken aback by how far Rutter has come in the game.

Pep Guardiola said Rutter is ‘fantastic’ but it’s not Man City showing the interest, instead Chelsea are adding the Frenchman to their shortlist for the upcoming summer transfer window.

That’s according to Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Chelsea are ‘closely monitoring’ the 22-year-old and is ‘one to watch’ this summer.

With Rutter looking at the next step in his career, fans around Yorkshire will be thrilled for the forward.

He was so detrimental to Daniel Farke’s plans last season, and it came as no surprise why he was awarded with a top flight move.

Considering this transfer and the likely large fee Chelsea will pay for Rutter, this begs the question, how will it benefit Leeds?

Well unfortunately, due to the insert of his release clause which got paid out, a sell-on clause was not possible in his Brighton contract, therefore the Whites won’t be able to benefit.

Despite this, his success speaks volumes, and with Rutter being the most two-footed Premier League player, Chelsea could land a gem, and it’s all thanks to Leeds’ development.
