Chris Wilder hasn’t had the best few days after his Sheffield United side completely collapsed in the promotion race.
It’s been a telling few days in the Championship promotion fight as Leeds United have made their mark alongside Burnley.
However, as for Sheffield, it’s looking as though the playoffs could be their destiny.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 42 | 25 | 13 | 4 | 82 | 29 | 53 | 88 | |
| 2 | 42 | 24 | 16 | 2 | 57 | 13 | 44 | 88 | |
| 3 | 42 | 26 | 7 | 9 | 57 | 33 | 24 | 83 |
Although nothing has been confirmed in the promotion race, Wilder called Sheffield fans an ‘absolute disgrace’, showing he might have lost his head completely.
Three losses in a row exemplifies that for the Blades boss, and Daniel Farke looks like he’s going to win the war, but this isn’t the first time he could be embarrassed by Leeds, as one player made his view clear about the manager.

Leeds United’s Joel Piroe embarrassed Chris Wilder
Joel Piroe hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory this season, but the Dutchman could’ve ended up at Sheffield United.
The Blades were seemingly keen on Piroe in what would’ve been a shock transfer, but Sheffield made up their interest in Piroe.
Obviously, this didn’t settle well in the Leeds camp, as Wilder was up to his mind games again.
However, what Piroe responded with made the whole scenario worth it, as Wilder was left with egg on his face.
Speaking in his Yorkshire Evening Post Newsletter (September 4th), journalist Graham Smyth suggested that Piroe didn’t have the faintest idea of who Wilder was, with the idea backfiring on the Blades boss.
Smyth said: “The tale goes that when a club employee broached the press speculation with him, he responded that there were worse stories during his time at Swansea.
“Then he asked who Chris Wilder was.”
Leeds can get revenge for Wilder’s attempt at Piroe
It’s not going Wilder’s way at the moment to Leeds’ joy.
The attempt at Piroe can be deemed petty, and that’s probably how Farke saw it, but the German can get his revenge in the summer.
Sheffield’s reasoning for going in for Piroe was to disrupt any deal for Gustavo Hamer, but with Wilder’s side slipping in the Championship and Leeds flourishing, Hamer’s future will be one to watch.
Hamer wants Premier League football, and should Sheffield fail, Leeds will be ready and waiting to secure the midfielder’s signature after Leeds wanted Hamer in August.
It seems as though it could be a season to forget for the Blades as not only is their return to the top flight under threat, but so is keeping their star man, and Leeds can punish them for Wilder’s desperate attempt.
