Leeds United remain interested in a move for Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer on deadline day, having had two bids rejected for the playmaker already.
Leeds are expected to announce the signing of Japan star Ao Tanaka in the coming hours but that has not deterred The Whites from tabling a second offer to sign Brazil-born Hamer from rivals Sheffield United.
Hamer, 25, has sparkled over the last few seasons in English football. His incredible form for Coventry saw him join The Blades under boss Paul Heckingbottom who described Hamer as a “tenacious” midfielder.
He has stayed at Bramall Lane despite relegation. Leeds have already done business with Chris Wilder’s side in the form of Jayden Bogle, but if Leeds had their way, they would raid the Blades a second time.
Leeds told to up their offer on deadline day for Hamer
Initially, Leeds made a £13m bid for Hamer. A move that Wilder said is a “million miles away” and that it was Leeds trying to unsettle Hamer, something which the Blades do not believe has been successful.
Then, on Thursday, it was claimed that Leeds made a second bid for Hamer of cash plus Joel Piroe. But Leeds sources denied that, even though the Sheffield Star say they expected Leeds to say they hadn’t.
Sheffield United are said to value Hamer at £18m and the Sheffield Star say ‘noises from Bramall Lane’ are that Leeds must significantly raise their cash offer on deadline day or forget a move to sign Hamer.
Daniel Farke hints at move for another no.10 on deadline day
The small matter of Leeds’ fourth Championship fixture of the season has taken a back seat as Leeds look to get two or even three new signings through the door on deadline day, with Leeds playing host to Hull.
Speaking in Thursday’s press conference, Farke said that Leeds will look at bringing in a no.10 given USA star Brenden Aaronson is the only natural no.10 in Farke’s squad. It may mean another move for Hamer.
But if Leeds are to finally get a bid accepted for Hamer, then they are going to have to pay through the nose to land the Blades ace. The chances are, Leeds look at another option that costs a whole lot less.
