Leeds United make shock second bid for £13m player as Joel Piroe offered in swap

A huge transfer story appears to be brewing at Leeds United ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Heading into today, Leeds were keen on making three new signings before the close of the window, two of which appear to be close to completion.

Midfielder Ao Tanaka is undergoing a medical at Elland Road ahead of a £3.4 million move from Fortuna Dusseldorf, and he is expected to be that goalscoring number eight wanted by Daniel Farke.

A new full-back is also on the verge of completion to joining with an agreement now close with St Gallen FC to sign the versatile Isaac Schmidt.

However, that does not look like it will be the end of the incoming transfer business at Leeds as they work to bring in another marquee addition.

Leeds make shock cash + Joel Piroe bid for Gustavo Hamer

Despite bringing in both Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon, Leeds are still interested in adding another number 10.

Neither Ramazani or Solomon are really like-for-like replacements for Georgino Rutter, and so Leeds have been looking at moves for both Gustavo Hamer and Roland Sallai.

Leeds saw an opening offer of £13 million for Hamer turned down by Sheffield United earlier this week and the Sheffield Star has now shared a major update on the situation.

It had been suggested Leeds were unlikely to make a second offer for Hamer but instead, a cash + player deal has been proposed.

Leeds are said to have offered last summer’s marquee arrival Joel Piroe and money in a transfer for Hamer, though the Blades have said no.

Chris Wilder does not see Piroe as someone who he needs to add to his squad and so Sheffield United have knocked back Leeds’ offer. It remains to be seen whether they return.

Hamer has agreed personal terms with Leeds

This is certainly a crazy story brewing ahead of deadline day as no one could’ve foreseen Leeds offering Piroe as part of the deal.

However, despite Wilder’s comments about Leeds’ bid for Hamer on Tuesday, clearly they have been offered some encouragement behind-the-scenes.

Reports yesterday indicated Hamer has actually agreed personal terms with Leeds ahead of a proposed move.

In fact, Leeds even think Hamer’s head has been turned by the speculation and so hopefully they return with another bid.
