Leeds United have a managerial admirer out in Europe. But the chances of him ever replacing Daniel Farke seem slim-to-none.

Daniel Farke has certainly had his critics during his one-and-a-half years at Leeds United. But on the whole, he’s done a good job, with 44 wins from 78 games in charge (56.41%).

The German is eyeing a career third promotion from the second tier. He’s taken Norwich City into the Premier League twice before and he has Leeds on course this time round.

Last Saturday, Leeds United thumped Oxford 4-0 in front of new U’s boss Gary Rowett who was full of praise for the Whites as they remain in 2nd place of the Championship table, still three points behind Sheffield United in 1st.

Leeds appointed Farke on a four-year deal in the summer of 2023. He has another two seasons left to run after this current campaign and with the Whites in form, there’s no uncertainty about his Elland Road future.

But one man in Europe dreams of one day managing Leeds United.

Obscure German manager makes Leeds United claim amid uncertainty over future

Timo Hillebrenner, who manages German non-league side Herzebrocker SV, faces an uncertain 2025 with his contract at Herzebrocker set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

He’s going to take a sabbatical after this campaign. But the German coach has revealed that he’d pick up the phone for Leeds United should they get in touch.

He told German outlet Neue Westfälische (via Sport Witness): “On the one hand, my job is my priority, and on the other, I want to have more time for private things. Unless Leeds United calls.”

Why Hillebrenner has an affinity with Leeds United remains unclear. But it seems like Leeds have a growing German fanbase with German third tier boss Mitch Kniat recently saying he watches Leeds United because Leeds no.2 Christopher John is a friend of his.

What Daniel Farke tells people in Germany about Leeds United

Farke previously explained what he tells people in Germany about Leeds United, and the atmosphere at Elland Road.

Speaking during the summer, he said: “I’ll be honest with you, so quite often in Germany, we’re always asked: so in the motherland of football, which is the most exciting stadium?

“Everyone in Germany expects you to speak about the big six or whatever. And obviously, there are some amazing stadiums.

“But I always mention: ‘listen, Elland Road is also pretty, pretty special and a unique atmosphere’.”

Leeds remains a club with an international following and the arrival of Red Bull only serves to make them more of a global brand, with players and even coaches wanting to be a part of the club’s journey.
