Daniel Farke has shared what he would always tell people in Germany about Elland Road following the announcement that he has become the manager of Leeds United.
Farke was speaking to LUTV after the club finally confirmed that the German will succeed Sam Allardyce and oversee our first year back in the Championship.
Daniel Farke appears to be a smart appointment from Leeds. Firstly, it was absolutely imperative that the Whites brought a manager in quickly as many of their rivals begin to strengthen.
But Farke is also someone with plenty of experience of working in the Championship. In fact, he has won the league in the last two campaigns he has spent in England’s second tier.
Farke shares what he’s always said about Elland Road after taking Leeds job
Of course, one of those title wins saw the Canaries vying with Leeds for promotion. And one of the key moments in the race involved Norwich producing a brilliant display to beat Marcelo Bielsa’s side at Elland Road.
It was a superb performance. And it seems that that occasion struck a chord with Farke as he explained what he always felt about coming to Elland Road following the announcement of his appointment.
“I’ll be honest with you, so quite often in Germany, we’re always asked: so in the motherland of football, which is the most exciting stadium? Everyone in Germany expects you to speak about the big six or whatever. And obviously, there are some amazing stadiums,” he told LUTV.
“But I always mention: ‘listen, Elland Road is also pretty, pretty special and a unique atmosphere’. I’ve experienced this twice. I can remember one game with Norwich, we came here and the whole stadium was white and everyone was chanting. We had a really good game with Norwich, but everyone was behind the home team.
“And this unity and togetherness, this excitement, this is what we want to create.”
It has to be said that Farke spoke incredibly well during his first few interviews as Leeds boss. He seemed to say a lot of the things the supporters would have wanted to hear.
Leeds will be amongst the favourites to seal promotion. But Farke made no secret of the fact that the squad is going to change considerably. And with that, there is a lot of hard work ahead.
The good news is that he has that proven track record in the Championship with Norwich. So we can trust that he could indeed prove to be the right man to take Leeds back to the top-flight at some stage.
